2011-06-18 Double skunking

When out to the Little J from 10am to 3pm, the road works has been finished. Flows were great, bugs were great, but just no fish. We did see one really nice trout taking sub surface, but we could not induce a take.

After a stop at Spruce Creek Pub for some average fries and breaded mushrooms, but some really nice wings we stopped by the Penn State spruce creek section to see what it is like. The stream was pretty small, about 2-3 wide and up to about 30 cm deep. Might have to give it a go next time.

To try and break the weekend skunk at the little J, I went out to spring creek. There were lots of fish and they were actively taking from the film or from the surface. After throwing basically everything I had that was midge based I have about 4-5 fish snap at my flies, but nothing to hook into.

All in all, a nice day out; but could have been topped off with some fish.

2011-05-30 Spring Creek

Memorial day and the weather was amazing, +90F and not a drop of rain. To bad there was a lack of fish through out the whole of spring creek. Picked up a 2" fish and then nothing. So I decided to head out the paradise and do some wading. There were mayflies around, but really nothing happening. However, I did spot a fish taking something off the surface so I placed my wolf just in front of it and BOOM, fish on. Played him out and back on his way, but that was it for the day. I was hoping that the nursery would hold something, but nope, and then the staircase pools had people swimming in it. However, I did see a really nice brown roll after I cast into a riffle; too much slack may have cost me that fish. After that I decide to get out of the heat, just to find out I had left my cellphone in my pocket and it was now dead. To go with it the sun had done a nasty on my arms.
