This fly will never get wet, but looks good.

Bass poppers and rabbit strips
I have really been getting into deer hair spinning and hope to one day get to the quality of Pat Cohen . For now it is just getting the basics down and trimming perfected. Here is what I have tied.
Fly 1 - Rabbit strip on a size 6 hook and red thread under body.
Fly 2 - Green and yellow bass popper
Fly 3 - Yellow and green bass popper
Fly 4 - Another bass popper, but with inset black and orange circles and a bi-colour body
Fly 5 - One of the first poppers I tied
Fly 6 - This fly has pheasant as the tail and inset peacock herl wings, was actually thinking it looks like a bald eagle so it might actually scary the fish away.

Fly 7 - My first try at insetting feathers during the spinning - some how turned into an orange raccoon.

Lake Colyer
Decided to try out Lake Colyer this morning. Being only 20 mins away it was a good choice for the possibility of rain with hurricane Irene coming. We got there sometime around 8 to 9 in the morning. There was already a group of people fishing in front of the car park and a few people with model yachts out on the water. From the car park we could see fish rising and some good spots along the dam side. After rigging up the 7wt and 5wt rods we headed off. Using Mrs. Simpson and a black fly we were able to hook into a few fish. After about 3 hours we had caught about 12 bluegills and a perch, could have possibly been more perch if I did not lose a few. We did not see any pickerel, which were meant to be there.

Fly Tying in a Storm
So we decided to go to spring creek on Sunday. After spending about 4 hours hunting trout we decided to call it quits, especially after the clouds started to look very nasty. Lucky for us it was the right choice. Just as we got home the thunder and lightening started up, then the heavy rain and that was that for the day. Additionally our internet was out, so it was back to the bench to tie up the BWOs that I needed to do for the swap and some poppers that I hope to use next weekend.
The token blue gill to finish off the big three
One of the three brown trouts that I got with nymphs
One of the two rainbows that my wife was able to get to rise to her fly. The other one decided that it was not to keen on being netted
Another photo of a brown that I got
The solo mayfly of the day, not sure what it is yet
Mrs Simpson streamer pattern, as tied
After applying water to give it that wet look

Warm Water Fishing
It has been awhile since I was on my blog, mainly due to the high temperatures that we are having in PA right now. Even though the rivers are cold in the morning by lunchtime the water is up into the 68-70F. To reduce some of the fishing tension I have been out catching blue gills. And also improving my tying ability of deer spun bass poppers. I am not sure I will actually find somewhere to use these poppers, but a trip of Whipple dam or the Mt Tussey pond might be required.

2011-06-18 Double skunking
When out to the Little J from 10am to 3pm, the road works has been finished. Flows were great, bugs were great, but just no fish. We did see one really nice trout taking sub surface, but we could not induce a take.
After a stop at Spruce Creek Pub for some average fries and breaded mushrooms, but some really nice wings we stopped by the Penn State spruce creek section to see what it is like. The stream was pretty small, about 2-3 wide and up to about 30 cm deep. Might have to give it a go next time.
To try and break the weekend skunk at the little J, I went out to spring creek. There were lots of fish and they were actively taking from the film or from the surface. After throwing basically everything I had that was midge based I have about 4-5 fish snap at my flies, but nothing to hook into.
All in all, a nice day out; but could have been topped off with some fish.

2011-05-30 Spring Creek
Memorial day and the weather was amazing, +90F and not a drop of rain. To bad there was a lack of fish through out the whole of spring creek. Picked up a 2" fish and then nothing. So I decided to head out the paradise and do some wading. There were mayflies around, but really nothing happening. However, I did spot a fish taking something off the surface so I placed my wolf just in front of it and BOOM, fish on. Played him out and back on his way, but that was it for the day. I was hoping that the nursery would hold something, but nope, and then the staircase pools had people swimming in it. However, I did see a really nice brown roll after I cast into a riffle; too much slack may have cost me that fish. After that I decide to get out of the heat, just to find out I had left my cellphone in my pocket and it was now dead. To go with it the sun had done a nasty on my arms.
